Archbishop Asks for Prayers of Peace

Pope Benedict XVI, continuing in the line of Pope John Paul II as well as the most authentic tradition of our Church, greatly respects and values the faith and traditions of the Muslim peoples.  We share in Pope Benedict’s regret that his comments have resulted in misunderstanding and offense.  It is clear that his intention was to enter into a dialogue that focused on the dignity of all humanity and peace.

I have read the entire talk of Pope Benedict and have not seen anything in it that could be misinterpreted by any leader, religious or non-religious, who is a reasonable person.  Therefore the violent reaction is most regrettable and unfair to our Holy Father.  Let us all pray for Pope Benedict and for true and lasting peace among all people!
