Christmas Program Seeking ‘Santas’

OKLAHOMA CITY — Catholic Charities is seeking individuals and groups who are interested in sponsoring families in need for the annual Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program, said Becky Van Pool, director of Parish Outreach and Program Development.

 The program matches anonymous sponsors with families in need throughout the greater Oklahoma City area. Each sponsor receives a Christmas wish list for the “adopted” family, including each family member’s first name, age and clothing size.  Sponsors wrap the gifts individually — labeling each gift with the appropriate family member’s name — and package them together in a big trash bag or box labeled with the family’s code number. Sponsors then drop off the gifts Dec. 11 at a central  location where the families pick them up two days later.  Sponsors  for the annual Christmas Adopt-a-Family project  can be  Families in need are referred to the        individuals, families or  businesses. For the past few years, McCaskill program from parish-based St. Vincent   Financial Group has sponsored a family for Christmas. Employees de Paul groups. Last year, through the              made a personal visit to their family’s home last Christmas.
Adopt-A-Family program, 299 families were as-sisted for Christmas. Individuals, civic clubs, school classes and church groups of all faiths as well as other organizations are invited to adopt a family this Christmas.
