Rained On But Not Out OKLAHOMA CITY — The 14th Annual Birth Choice Celebration of Life was held at the Myriad Gardens on Oct. 15. Just as forecast, it rained all day. In spite of the weather, more than 250 people walked through Bricktown to show their commitment to life. Covered with ponchos, raincoats and shielded by umbrellas, the parade was led by 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, who have done so every year since the walk began. The one-mile walk concluded back at the Myriad
Gardens, where the events were moved inside. Children of all
ages enjoyed a cookie walk, face painting and hair decorations,
clowns and balloons. Kathy Estlinbaum and her able crew provided
hot dogs, chips, pop and kolaches for everyone. The Teenage Fearless Factor Follies, coordinated by Katie Gordy, was a great success. Youth groups from Bishop McGuiness High School, Our Lady’s Cathedral, Saint James and Saint Monica churches participated. Saint Monica’s youth won the competition and got to take home the grand prize big shoe trophy. The Celebration of Life is the major fund-raiser
for Birth Choice. Because of the weather, attendance and donations
were drastically down. In previous years, the Celebration of Life
has raised as much as $50,000. This year, contributions total around
$20,000. If you collected funds, please be sure to mail them in. You can always walk anytime, anywhere to fulfill your obligation to sponsors. Anyone else who would also like to contribute is welcome to do so. Birth Choice accepts donations all year long. Checks should be made to Birth Choice of Oklahoma Inc. and sent to P.O. Box 94533, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73143, or if you prefer to use a credit card, please call Jan O’Neill at (405) 606-8426 . |
