Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School will open the doors to its $9.5 million academic facility in August of this year. Four years of planning, fundraising and building culminate in a new high school which will include 22 classrooms, a 5,000 square foot student commons area, cafeteria and offices for administration, counseling and development. The school will feature both wired and wireless computers, allowing the maximum amount of flexible usage for both students and teachers. The new library media center will include an array of both written materials and technological capabilities. The center has been designed to draw students into a learning atmosphere that can be both private and small group oriented.
The three-story structure features a second level
that includes eleven classrooms, a balcony that overlooks the commons
area and one administration office. The lower level (below the main
floor) houses nine classrooms as well as counseling, development,
athletic and special events office space. Reinforced concrete walls
allow this level the ability to serve as a tornado shelter in the
event of inclement weather. Visitors are greeted by a receptionist
area, comfortable seating, and a floor to ceiling glass trophy case
in the new lobby, just inside the main entrance off Francis Street.
Beyond the receptionist area are administrative and business offices.
Besides the lobby and commons area, this level also includes four
classrooms. Each level has easy access as well as spacious restroom
facilities. The new school is totally handicap accessible. Also in the lobby will be a special area dedicated to donor recognition. Families or individuals who have made donations at specified levels will be honored by the inscription of their names on a donor recognition plague at the appropriate gift giving level. Chairmen and committee members of the various capital campaign committees will also be listed. A project of this magnitude requires a great deal of planning and work from many people. Campaign Co-Chairmen, Tom Casso and Judy Love were instrumental in providing the structure, support, leadership and dedication necessary to make our dream a reality. Their vision combined with Archbishop Beltran’s total commitment to the success of the project ensures the ability of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School to provide quality secondary Catholic education for the next 50 years. Finally, a voice of gratitude is extended to all those who made financial and personal sacrifices to build our new school. To date we remain just $75,000 short of our goal. Contributions are still being accepted through our Development Department and several naming opportunities remain. Your gift will impact the lives of our students today, tomorrow and beyond. Strong Catholic education ensures the strength of our faith for generations. If you are not part of our family, come join us. Selected as one of the top 50 Catholic high schools in the country, a McGuinness education is second to none. Bishop McGuinness is located at 801 N.W. 50th Street, Oklahoma City.
