This award is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to improve the quality of life in our Archdiocese, especially for those whose lives are affected by poverty, disability or loss. On any given day you may find Marcus Evans delivering food to families or individuals in crisis. From making meals for delivery to street homeless persons to coordinating and overseeing the packing and delivery of three hundred bags of groceries on a Saturday morning, Marcus Evans exemplifies the Gospel call to feed the hungry. On November 6, 2005, the Dorothy Day Food Distribution Center at St. Charles was dedicated. This event was the culmination of a year of work by Marcus Evans. He formed a committee to plan this much needed facility, raised funds to build the building, worked on its construction, and continues to oversee its operation. A devout Catholic, this award winning Oklahoma City Firefighter gives of us time in many arenas to work for justice. Marcus is active in the work for a living wage and the Labor Religion organization. Throughout every activity of his life Marcus models the values of Catholic Social Teaching. A person of deeply held convictions, Marcus is compassionate always seeing the face of Jesus in those he serves. Marcus serves the as President of the St. Charles Borromeo Parish Council. He is also active in the Legislative Action Coalition and JustFaith program. Marcus and his wife, Tresa have seven children.
