Promotion of Prayer The role of the Office of Worship and Spiritual Life is to foster communal and personal prayer life within the Archdiocese. Much of the effort this past year has been directed toward the celebration of the centennial of the Diocese of Oklahoma. This included preparing prayer cards and pilgrimage booklets and distributing them to all parishes. It also included planning the Centennial Celebration that was held at the Cox Arena in August with 14,000 people attending from all areas of our state. In addition, a special Centennial Celebration was held at St. Gregory’s Abbey for the Oklahoma clergy and religious. During the past year, the Office coordinated special ceremonies such as the ordinations of Father Joseph Irwin and Deacon Daniel Letoumeau. Annual events include the Rite of Election and the Chrism Mass. The Office oversees the fall retreat for priests and ongoing spiritual direction for priests, provides days of recollection for laity, and schedules a variety of workshops throughout the year for musicians, R.C.I.A. leaders, and others involved in parish liturgy. |
