Annual CFO Golf Classic a Boost
for Catholic Education The foursome of Kevin McCloskey, James Forgotson, Father Y.C. and Joel McCloskey. EDMOND — A foursome representing Saint John Nepomuk Church in Yukon edged a team from Saint Charles Parish to capture the Archbishop Eusebius J. Beltran Traveling Trophy at the annual Catholic Foundation Golf Classic. It was the second consecutive tournament title for a team representing the Yukon Parish. The scramble, held at Oak Tree Golf and Country Club, was played June 13. More than 100 golfers participated in the event that helps build the Catholic Education Endowment. Following play, golfers were treated to a dinner and awards ceremony. Many took part in the silent auction that featured an array of gift items, prizes, trips and tickets to sporting events. Some of the more unusual items that raised money for the CFO included a baseball jersey signed by Pete Rose. Kevin McCloskey took home the jersey, while Cathy Christens was the high bidder for four Texas Rangers baseball tickets. Hugh Rice walked off with one of the more unusual items, a framed and uncut sheet of "Peanuts" trading cards. Phil Brockhaus landed a week's stay at a Padre Island condominium, while Jim Carel snagged a week's vacation at Smuggler's Notch in Vermont. Ed Cook won the use of a two-bedroom condo at Beaver's Creek, Colo., while Ann Allen has two seats at the Dec. 22 All College Basketball Classic. The Saint John Nepomuk team was made up of Jim Fowler, Matt Parker, Gene Schwarz and Phil Schwarz. The second place team from Saint Charles consisted of Daniel Stith, David Johnson, Mark Daly and Michael Milligan. In the Second Flight, Lamar Outdoor Advertising with a foursome of Kevin McCloksey, Joel McCloskey, James Forgotson and Father Yeddanapalli took top honors, while the team of Derek Mountford, Dwayne Brown, Mike Campbell and Rick Hickenbottom from Mercy Health Center finished in second place. The 2006 Classic will be played June 12 at Twin
Hills Golf and Country Club.
