The 7 Principles of
Catholic Social Teaching

Below is a summary of the seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching. All of the programs and ministries of Catholic Charities strive to practice the principals of Catholic Social Teaching and live out the Social Justice mission of the Church.  

Life and Dignity of the Human Person
Human life is scared. The dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society

Call to Family, Community, and Participation
The human family is the central social institution.  Human beings grow and achieve fulfillment in community.

Rights and Responsibilities of the Human Person Flowing from Our God-Given Dignity
Certain rights are basic among these are right to life and those things required for human decency.

Dignity of work and the Rights of Workers
Upholding the rights of workers including just wages, productive work, private property, and economic initiative.

Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
Putting the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.

Solidarity
Recognizing that all belong to one human family living in an interdependent world.

Care for God’s Creation
Promoting stewardship of the earth and all creation.
