Days Young Oklahoma Men Take Time to
Explore Their Faith Twenty Five young men from across the Archdiocese gathered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Youth camp August 11-13. The young men, mostly high school aged from 14 different parishes and reflected the diversity of the diocese with some from metro parishes, rural parishes and the Hisp-anic and Vietnamese communities. The retreat was facilitated by the Vocations Team of Fathers Lowell Steiferman, Tim Luschen, Rick Stansberry and youth ministers Joe Welch and Gerald Curren. Talks on priesthood were given by Fathers Kirk Larkin, Paul Gallatin and Mike Chapman. Thursday evening culminated in a powerful Holy Hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament led by Father Steiferman. Music and a talk was given by Michael John Porier. Seminarians were present, and Deacon Joe Irwin, Cory Stanley and Anthony Childers who told what seminary was like. On Friday a panel discussion was led by Fathers Lushen, Stansberry and Deacon Irwin. Archbishop Beltran celebrated Mass for the gathering and shared his vision of priesthood. In the four years this retreat has occurred, 130 young men have attended. Four have attended all four retreats and they are now all in seminary. A dozen young men have at least entered seminary or religious life, and half of the current seminarians for the Archdiocese have attended the retreat. It is a good retreat and we pray that more you-ng
men will attend next year. It was a time of prayer,
recreation, sacraments and fellowship and hopefully
everyone came away a little closer to God. |
