...Divine Mercy

Today, one week after Easter, we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday.  The Mercy of God extended to human beings from the very beginning of our existence.  It continues now and will be ours forever.

At the moment of creation, it was God's Mercy expressed in love that created us.  When humans first sinned, God did not abandon or destroy us.  Rather, in Mercy, He promised to send His Son Jesus to save us.

When Jesus took our human flesh and blood as His own, He, while remaining the eternal God, truly became one of us.  He became our Brother Who, in Divine Mercy, would redeem us from our sins.

Even though Jesus was rejected by many and was unjustly condemned and crucified, He continued to love us totally.  He shed His blood for us out of His Divine Mercy and love.

Jesus saw the need we have for His continuing presence and Mercy.  In His providence, He established the Church and commissioned His apostles to act in His Name and on His authority.  He entrusted to them the sacraments He instituted.  These sacraments continue to be His channel of Mercy and love.

Indeed, God has not abandoned us.  He is merciful and loving.  He continues to call us especially now during this Easter season.  Let us open our hearts to the Divine Mercy which Jesus offers us for we know that our hearts are restless until they find rest in Him!
