MAY

1 JustFaith Graduate presentation will be the Catholic Pastoral Center at 7 p.m.  Jack Jezreel will speak.

2 JustFaith Clergy luncheon will at St. John Nepomuk  at 11:30 a.m.  Jack Jezreel with the JustFaith ministries will be the keynote speaker.

2-4 Faith In Action:  Parish Social Ministry Regional Training a Parish Social Ministry regional training program, will feature speakers from across the United States who will share their knowledge to develop, support, and expand parish social ministries.   The training workshop, which is open to the public, will be held at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Oklahoma City. The cost is $95, which includes two and a half days of training, receptions, and meals. Lodging is available at the Pastoral Center and reservations can be made by calling Catholic Charities at 405-523-3009. 3 A Labyrinth Retreat, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sister Melissa Anna Letts, OSB. We each have a sacred center of God within us.  Enter the sacred circle of the Labyrinth on a pilgrimage to your center and into the Heart of God. Learn how to let go of the obstacles that prevent you from starting or continuing your sacred journey. An elegant door prize will be given to one lucky winner on May 9, the night of our fourth anniversary celebration.

9-10 Engagement Encounter Weekend. The program for the weekend is presented by a team of married couples and a priest.  The team couples share their own personal journey of marriage in relation to selected topics.  After each presentation, the engaged couples are given questions that are related to the topic of the presentation.  The couples then share their responses with one another. 10 Convalidación. A Spanish-language marriage preparation program for couples that are married civilly or thru common law and want to have their marriage blessed by the Church. This program gives a couple an opportunity to learn how to live their marriage as a sacrament in today’s society. The couples reflect on various topics and the demands they face in marriage. 13 Celebrating Nurses Mercy Health Center and Catholic Charities will sponsor an evening of appreciation for our many nurses. Mass will be celebrated beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel at the Catholic Pastoral Center, 7501 NW Expressway.    Dinner will follow along with entertainment and a speaker. 17 Adoption Seminar Catholic Charities extends an invitation to anyone interested in learning more about adoption to register for a free seminar sponsored by Oklahoma Adoption Coalition & Hope Ministries. The seminar is set for Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. -3:30 p.m. at Crosspointe Church, 2601 24th Ave. SE in Norman. 17 The Oklahoma Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women's Biennial Convention, with a theme of "Bringing Light to Our Global Society”, at the Catholic Pastoral Center, 7501 NW Expressway. Registration opens at 9 a.m. The tentative agenda includes discussion about the work done by the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City in Guatemala and the Canonization process of Fr. Stanley Rother.  The agenda will also include discussion about the Our Lady of Fatima Rehab School and Center in Liberia, Africa. Participants are urged to buy or borrow a copy of the book "The Shepherd Cannot Run…Letters of Stanley Rother Missionary and Martyr. The book will be part of the discussion on Guatemala. The book, as well as the DVD "No Greater Love- The story of Father Stanley Rother" can be purchased through the office of The Sooner Catholic; cost is $10 per copy. 26 Memorial Day Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, with Archbishop Beltran at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend this Mass as we remember the deceased on this national holiday.

26 Annual Memorial Day Mass at St. Patrick Cemetery at 10 a.m. located one-half mile west of Council Road on Sorghum Mill Road. A potluck luncheon will follow the celebration of the Mass. Bring a lawn chair for seating you and your family, along with a covered dish. In case of stormy weather, mass and luncheon will be moved to St. Monica Church at 2001 N.Western, Edmond.

19-22 Grief to Grace: A healing retreat for victims of sexual abuse.  A new retreat created by Theresa and Kevin Burke of Rachel's Vineyard is being offered by the Office of Family Life.  "From Grief to Grace - Reclaiming the Gift of Sexuality" is a spiritual journey for anyone who has suffered degradation or violation through sexual abuse, rape, incest, or other forms of traumatic violation in childhood, adolescence, or as an adult. This program was created to end the isolation and secrets of abuse within a retreat process that is fully centered upon the person and presence of Jesus Christ,. The Living scriptures, together with journaling, group activities, and discussions offer a very effective healing process grounded in Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and the Eucharist. It is a pilgrimage to discover the love, tenderness, belonging, safety, joy, and peace that are often missing from the stories of abuse victims. 11-13 Rachel's Vineyard Retreats for Healing after Abortion. Experience the healing love of Jesus Christ on a Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreat. The retreat offers an opportunity to deeply enter into the grieving process and identify the ways your abortion may have affected you. Discussions, spiritual exercises, prayer and reflection are combined with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a Memorial Service honoring your child and a Mass of Resurrection. Participation is strictly confidential and offers a beautiful opportunity to experience God’s love, forgiveness and tender compassion. Both men and women are invited to experience this therapy for the soul. The program is an apostolate of the Catholic Church, but those from other faith backgrounds are welcome to attend. Pre registration is required. Cost is $75 for materials, lodging and meals. Financial assistance is available. 31- Nov 2 Rachel's Vineyard Retreats for Healing after Abortion. Experience the healing love of Jesus Christ on a Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreat. The retreat offers an opportunity to deeply enter into the grieving process and identify the ways your abortion may have affected you. Discussions, spiritual exercises, prayer and reflection are combined with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a Memorial Service honoring your child and a Mass of Resurrection. Participation is strictly confidential and offers a beautiful opportunity to experience God’s love, forgiveness and tender compassion. Both men and women are invited to experience this therapy for the soul. The program is an apostolate of the Catholic Church, but those from other faith backgrounds are welcome to attend. Pre registration is required. Cost is $75 for materials, lodging and meals. Financial assistance is available. Too often we assume that second marriages need little to no preparation, but 60% of second marriages end in divorce.  This seems to be due, in part, to unanticipated problems and miscommunications.  The issues highlighted in this program are:  communication, Step-family structures, former spouses, conflict, sexuality, and spirituality.
